Navy Federal will no longer be able to offer Federal Student Loans. On March 30, 2010, the Health and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (HCERA) was passed into law, which makes significant changes to the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). As a result, after July 1, 2010, no new student loans will be made under FFELP, and lenders may no longer participate in the program. Moving forward, any subsidized or unsubsidized Stafford Loans, PLUS loans and consolidation loans made to borrowers will be made under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program. Prior to applying for a federal student loan, please contact your school's financial aid office to find out if they still participate in the Federal Education Loan Program, since many schools have already made the transition to the Direct Loan Program. Though we will no longer offer federal student loans, we will continue to service any current loans through Great Lakes Higher Education Services. If you have any questions regarding your current student or parent loan, please contact a Great Lakes representative at 1-800-236-4300. We are proud to have worked with all our student and parent members to provide students with the opportunity to enrich their lives by furthering their education over the past 29 years. You can still turn to us for help in planning, budgeting and saving for college and tuition. |
